“Walk for Breast Cancer Awareness “
What is Moonwalk?
Moonwalk is an annual activity that is held every full moon of the month of October that aims to gain breast cancer awareness. It’s advocacy campaign is focused on early screening and detection of breast cancer through monthly breast self-examination and mammography, especially for women aged 20 and beyond.
RAFI’s Cebu population-based Cancer Registry identifies breast cancer as the leading cause of death among Cebuano women having a record of 657 deaths out of 1,349 cases in 2003-2007.
Last year 3,000 people from various community sectors in Cebu supported the advocacy walk. Now on it’s 10th year The Eduardo J. Aboitiz Cancer Center (EJACC) of RAFI, the events organizer in partnership with Cebu City Government and Task Force Cancer of Cebu once again calls to the public to take part in this massive awareness campaign.
This years moonwalk will be on October 19, 2013 – Saturday, a walk from Fuente Osmeña Circle to Plaza Independecia. Assembly time is at 5 p.m. at Fuente Osmeña Circle, while the walk starts at 6 p.m. after a very brief program.
Pink Yourself Up!, the Moonwalk 2013 Costume Contest
To spice up this years #Moonwalk10, there will be a moonwalk costume contest. Wear your pinkiest, wackiest and craziest costume to win a cash worth 2,500php.
How to join and win?
1. Wear a pink costume.
2. Take photos of yourself during the walk.
3. Submit your best photo to gina.mariquit@rafi.org.ph with the following details: your complete name, email address, landline number, and mobile number. Only one photo is allowed.
4. Deadline of submission of photo is on October 22, 2013 – Tuesday.
5. RAFI will post the top 20 best photos on October 23, 2013 on the RAFI Facebook page under the album Moonwalk 2013.
6. Look for your photo in the album then, tag yourself and friends. Ask them to like your photo.
7. Only “likes” on the photo within the Moonwalk 2013 album in RAFI Facebook page from Oct. 23-30 will be counted in the final judging.
8. Announcement is on Oct. 31 and there will only be one declared winner, who will receive the Php 2,500.
Criteria for Judging
* Originality and creativity (40 percent)
* Social media impact/Facebook likes (40 percent)
* Relevance of the costume to the cause (20 percent)
